H.B. Wallace Reserve

Historic Green Mountain Falls Foundation Project

The H.B. Wallace Reserve, a 95-acre open space preservation initiative by the Historic Green Mountain Falls Foundation, boasts over two miles of hiking trails. These trails link to the extensive GMF trails network, spanning more than five miles, via the Kirkpatrick Trail, constructed by the Colorado Legends and Legacy Corps in 2009.

MUST SEE!

Discover the Greenbox Art Exhibit by taking Elk Root, tucked away to the left of the trail. I stumbled upon it last summer, unaware of its origins, and it was an incredibly surreal experience. View the pictures below!

Pro-Tips

  • It is a 1 hr walk to the HB Wallace Reserve from the Lodge.

  • Utilize the All-Trails App for guidance along the way, as there are a few tricky spots.

  • Hiking Poles will make the trip back down the steep trail much more doable. I have personally bloodied a few knees with slips and falls.

Best Trails within the HB Wallace Reserve:

  • Castle Rock Trail

  • Fat Man's Squeeze

  • Kirkpatrick Trail

  • Elk Root
